Cities all around the world are facing major challenges when it comes to rapid urbanisation, ageing populations, increasing loneliness and lack of affordable housing; all on the backdrop of a climate emergency. It is clear that unless we rethink our built environment, our cities will become increasingly unsustainable, unaffordable and socially unequal.
“Today, cities are not meeting the essential needs of a big portion of the people living there. Simultaneously, urban areas are the biggest driver of the climate crisis. We really find ourselves at a crossroads: we can continue to hurtle down this well-trodden path, which we know where it leads; or we can explore a new way forward. The time is now to ask ourselves: what kind of cities do we want to live in? What do we believe is important for a good life? And what makes a good home for all of us?”
